1. Still images are generated in two ways: 1:Bitmaps (raster) 2:Vector-drawn graphics

2. Bitmaps: A bitmap is a simple matrix of the tiny dots that form an image and are displayed on a screen or printed

3. Bitmaps are an image format suited for creation of: 1:Photo-realistic images 2:Complex drawings requiring fine detail

4. Bitmap Software 1:Adobe’s Photoshop and Illustrator 2:Corel’s Painter and CorelDraw

5. Image editing programs enable the user to: -Enhance and make composite images -Alter and distort images -Add and delete elements -Morph (manipulate still images to create animated transformations), allow to smoothly blend two images so that one image seems to melt into the next

6.1. Vector-drawn images are used in the following areas: -Computer-aided design (CAD) programs needed by architects and engineers -Graphic artists designing for the print media

6.2. How vector-drawn images work: -A vector is a line that is described by the location of its two endpoints. -Vector drawing makes use of Cartesian coordinates.

6.3. Vector-drawn images versus bitmaps: -Vector images use less memory space and have a smaller file size as compared to bitmaps. -For the Web, pages that use vector graphics in plug-ins download faster and, when used for animation, draw faster than bitmaps. -Vector objects are easily scalable without loss of resolution or image quality.

7. 3-D drawing and rendering: 1:3-D animation tools 2:Features of a 3-D application 3:Panoramas

7.1. 3-D animation tools: -Daz3D -Form*Z -NewTek′s Lightwave -Autodesk’s Maya -Trimble’s SketchUp

7.2. Features of a 3-D application 1:Modeling - Placing all the elements into 3-D space. 2:Extrusion - The shape of a plane surface extends some distance. 3:Lathing - A profile of the shape is rotated around a defined axis.

8. Understanding natural light and color : 1:Additive color 2:Subtractive color 3:Color models

8.1. Additive color:- red, green, and blue (RGB).

8.2. Subtractive color: In the subtractive color method, color is created by combining colored media such as paints or ink.

8.3. Color palettes : -Palettes are mathematical tables that define the color of pixels displayed on the screen. -The most common palettes are 1-, 4-, 8-, 16-, and 24-bits deep.
