## 5. Sea Creatures

### 5.1. What animals live in the ocean?

5.1.1. Art project: Color pictures of various sea animals and then put them "in" the ocean you have made on the wall.

5.2.2. Musical activity: Use the book with illustrations and accompanying CD with the song/story, "There's a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea".

## 6. Sand

### 6.1. Types of sand

6.1.1. Science: Bring in different types of sand in containers. Let the children feel the sand and tell them how it's made and why they are different.

6.1.1.1. Math: Bring in a scale and have the children count out equal units of sand into plastic baggies and then way them to see if the different types of sand weigh different amounts.

## 8. Sea Plants

### 8.1. Types of plants in the ocean

8.1.1. Art: Have the children make art projects using different materials like felt pieces, string, yarn, construction paper and ribbon to make seaweed and other plants that are found in the ocean.

8.1.2. Art activity: Make coral out of colored pipe cleaners.

## 9. Sea Shells

### 9.2. Types of sea shells found on the beach

9.2.1. Art Project: Draw a picture of the ocean and the beach. Glue seashells onto the picture.

9.2.2. Literary: Read the book, "A House for Hermit Crab".

9.2.3. Science: Play a matching game with animals and what their shells look like.

## 10. Pollution

### 10.1. What pollutes our ocean?

10.1.1. Literary: Read the book, "Abigale the Happy Whale" to help children learn about pollution in the ocean.

10.1.2. Art activity: Print out enlarged photos of art sculptures made from ocean pollution. Have the children see what household items they can identify in the sculptures.

## 11. Temperature

### 11.1. Compare temperatures of ocean in different coastal cities.

11.1.1. Science project: Look up average ocean temperatures for different cities. Make small "oceans" in containers so children can feel the difference between temperatures.
